Aditya Chopra to direct Aamir and Hrithik

Ending his seven year hiatus from filmmaking, Aditya Chopra is finally launching his film in September. The yet untitled film features Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan but surprisingly his lucky mascot, Shah Rukh Khan, has been left out. Industry insiders are surprised by Adi's omission of his favourite star without whom he has never directed any film earlier.

Our Yash Raj source says, "Adi has started working on the pre production work of his third film which will be starring two of the most perfectionist actors in Bollywood - Aamir and Hrithik. The actresses to star opposite them haven't been zeroed in on yet but names like Rani and Preity are being discussed. This action thriller written by Adi himself is going to be Yash Raj's most costly production till date with a lot of foreign crew being hired specially for its' action sequences. Aamir, who is currently busy shooting for his home production, a Hindi remake of the south hit, Ghajini, is scheduled to complete his film by September. Hrithik, who is busy shooting Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar is also going to be free from August end. Both will be available for Adi's film which will probably go on the floors from the second week of September. A major portion of the film will be shot abroad."

On the supposed rift between the Chopras and Shah Rukh, our source says, "Rumours were rife that Adi will be starting a project starring Shah Rukh but he has surprised all by opting for Aamir who has done last year's Fanaa with the Yash Raj banner and Hrithik who has done Mujhse Dosti Karoge (2002) and Dhoom 2 (2006). King Khan, who has done a total six films with the prestigious banner including his forthcoming Chak De India, is currently not being featured in any of Yash Raj banner's coming films. Adi had debuted with SRK has the hero in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge (1995) and in his second film brought SRK and Big B together for the first time - Mohabbatein (2000). It was being taken for granted that SRK would star in his next film too."

Hrithik's secretary, Ashok Vasodia, says, "Talks have been going on between Hrithik and Adi Chopra for a long time now. They have been discussing many scripts. Both are very keen to work with each other is all I can say."

According to an industry insider, "The Bachchans today are a big brand in totalality with the addition of Aishwarya Rai to the family. The Chopras are smart enough not to take pangas with them. Amitabh and Adi's dad, Yash Chopra, have been friends for three decades now. SRK was always considered as family by the Chopras but now he is left out. It is reportedly because of his ongoing war with Amitabh Bachchan."

While a Bollywood trade analyst feels that "SRK is currently busy with his own home production Om Shanti Om and expanding his FX studio in Mumbai. After completing OSO, he has plans to start working on his next, a Rs 100 crore project which he intends to act and produce with close friend Farah Khan's hubby, Shirish Kunder (Jaan-E-Mann) as the director. Both Adi and SRK share a great relationship. Looking at SRK's prior commitments, Adi who is basically more of a script driven man, must have opted for Aamir and Hrithik."
