Up Close & Personal with Bollywood's Dancing Queen Madhuri Dixit

Rati Agrawal, Team iDiva

You have come back to Bollywood after a span of seven years. What are your plans now?

Madhuri Dixit

I have never been away from Bollywood as itís my workplace, but yes, I took a short break when I moved to the US because I always prioritise my family over everything. That was the time when my family needed me most. Now I am here and will take everything that comes my way. Presently, I have two projects coming up - Dedh Ishqiya & Gulab Gang.

How has marriage and motherhood changed you?

Madhuri Dixit

Itís been a happy change definitely. I feel more responsible towards my family and especially my kids. When you are not married, you are the centre of your universe. You are protected and pampered by your family. But when you have kids, they become the centre of your universe and life, and everything starts revolving around them.

Describe your life in U.S.A?

Madhuri Dixit

My stay in the US was ideal and peaceful; I enjoyed every bit of it. It was complete family time and I indulged in activities which made me happy and
content. I could be myself and spend quality time with my family and kids which was needed then.

You have taken to the web in full gusto. What led you to be so active on social media and even start your own website?

Madhuri Dixit

I feel social media is a platform, which has picked up very well in the last few years. I wanted to take advantage of this fact and hence, started my own website where my sole aim was to promote dancing as an art that anyone and everyone can learn. I have already taught dance steps for two of my popular songs which have received an overwhelming response from the followers and I am hoping that this is just the beginning.

My website is the first of its kind in the world, a website that teaches dance moves on my popular songs. I call it a dancercise - dance and exercise at the same time. The idea of the academy is to make dance accessible to everyone across the globe. There are about 32000+ students already on it. I am planning to teach 27 more steps soon. In the academy, learning is fun and participative with special prizes and badges as you advance your learning.

Your upcoming movie Gulab Gang is all set to hit theatres soon. Do describe your role in the movie.

Madhuri Dixit

We have finished shooting for Gulab Gang but the date for its release have not been fixed yet. I play the role of a real-life activist who fights against
injustices meted out to women.

Rati Agrawal, Team iDiva

What are your expectations from the movie?

Madhuri Dixit

The only expectation any actor can have from a movie is for her role should be appreciated and recognised. I am playing a real-life activist in Gulab Gang,
so all the more I want to convey a larger social message to my audience. I really hope it is taken in that light.

What movies do you have in the pipeline?

Madhuri Dixit

There is Dedh Ishqiiya, a sequel of Ishqiya which is almost on the verge of completion; only a few days of shooting are left.

You are someone who has defined fashion in the past. Do you feel your sense of fashion has changed with the times?

Madhuri Dixit

I have tasted everything, from broad puffy shoulders in the 80s to chic and bold styles in 2013. I feel style has changed for the better as the number of options you get to choose from today are plenty; and of course, one better than the other.

Fashion is almost cyclical for me. Clothes and styles that I used to wear in the 60s and 70s are making a comeback and I see myself wearing the same things with a much more bold outlook and in vibrant colours. Nevertheless, my most comfortable clothing has always been old tee-shirts and jeans; be it now or then.

What is the secret behind your youthful skin?

Madhuri Dixit

Having tried the new Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, I am beginning feel my skin becoming firmer and more hydrated. Olay Regenerist has upgraded with 20% more anti-ageing ingredient, so it's become my go-to anti-ageing product.

You have the ability to appeal to thousands of fans of every age. How do you connect with fans from every generation?

Madhuri Dixit

There are so many options today like Facebook and Twitter. I always make it a point to stay connected with my fans through Twitter. Also the website is the biggest way for me to connect with my fans who like to dance. Itís an effort to spark that little desire of dance that every individual has in them.
