Bollywood queen Madhuri defies time in beautiful first pictures from black comedy Dedh Ishqiya

Bollywood queen Madhuri Dixit looks as charismatic and stunning as she did during her superstardom days in the first-look snapshot of her upcoming film Dedh Ishqiya.
The snapshot introduces Madhuri's character Begum Para as royalty personified in a gorgeous red and gold dress.
With grey shades in her character, Begum Para is an enigmatic woman from a nawabi gharana who is irresistible yet dangerous.

Dedh Ishqiya marks Madhuri's second shot at a comeback after marriage following her 2007 debacle, Aaja Nachle. The film is slated to release on January 31.
A black comedy, Dedh Ishqiya is produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and directed by Abhishek Chaubey and is billed as the sequel of the duo's 2010 crossover hit, Ishqiya.
Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi return as the male protagonists of the film, while Huma Qureshi is also part of the cast.
In the snapshot, Madhuri is seen smiling at Naseeruddin with mesmerising eyes. She is clearly the seductress with a 'nawaabi adaa' and the duo have already shot some steamy intimate scenes.
Bhardwaj was reportedly keen on casting Madhuri even before the actress decided to make a Bollywood comeback. After the more mainstream Aaja Nachle, which relied solely on her dancing skills, tanked, Madhuri seems to have gone for a calculated re-launch this time by choosing film-makers known for solid scripts and characters.
Of course, one cannot imagine a Madhuri-starrer without a sizzling dance. So what if she plays a begum - given her dancing skills the makers of Dedh Ishqiya have accommodated a special mujra choreographed by Pandit Birju Maharaj. The song is titled Apke karar mein.
Dedh Ishqiya, like Ishqiya, revolves around the theme of love, passion and deceit. Unlike the prequel, though, the setting of the film is not rustic. Rather, this film is set against the backdrop of Lucknow and will try to capture the nawaabi milieu.
Currently, the film unit is shooting for another song in Mumbai. It is an elaborate sequence that requires the depth of the darkness, and hence Madhuri has been working nights.
The makers plan to release a first glimpse of the film on November 8, right after Diwali.

'Dedh Ishqiya' teasers to release next week

Madhuri Dixit starrer " Dedh Ishqiya" is not a run-of-the-mill story and its makers have put in place a unique and smart marketing strategy to promote and build up a pre-release buzz around the movie.

The film is scheduled to release Jan 10 next year and Mansi Maroo, who has co-produced the black comedy with Vishal Bhardwaj, says the focus will be on the Hindi speaking belt during its promotion.

"We are working on the promotion and marketing strategy of the film. We are planning to release a couple of teasers by the next week and will launch each character one by one," Maroo told IANS.

Another special feature of the marketing is that the first trailer will be launched on social networking site Facebook which is taking a special initiative for "Dedh Ishqiya" by dedicating 350 million impressions, said Maroo.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, "Dedh Ishqiya", a sequel to the 2010 hit "Ishqiya", is based in a small town in Uttar Pradesh, just like the original.

"Since the film is based in a small town and has a lot of Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) culture in it, we will focus a lot on the Hindi belt. A lot of attention will be given to the rural areas during promotion. This is just the beginning and yes, there is a lot more in store," Maroo said.

The film will see 1990s diva Madhuri returning to the big screen as Begum Para, an attractive yet dangerous woman.

Chaubey has also roped in Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi, who were there in the original, along with Huma Qureshi.

Dedh Ishqiya first trailer: Madhuri Dixit and Naseeruddin Shah’s unconventional chemistry is sexy! Watch video!

After a long wait, the makers of Dedh Ishqiya have finally released the trailer and after watching the video wethinks it was absolutely worth the wait….
Dedh Ishqiya’s first promo featuring Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi is visually stunning. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah explains the seven stages of love in the first look, but we ain’t going to talk about that ‘coz you’ll understand better by watching the video, trust us.

We would rather directly get to the point – The first thing that caught our attention was Madhuri’s royal avatar. She carries off her look beautifully. But sadly, she isn’t looking any younger. Having said that she makes a great pair with Naseeruddin Shah who never fails to mesmerize us as an actor, right? Well, that’s what he does here as well. The chemistry between Mads and Naseer is sizzling but not in an obvious way. It has what you call in Urdu - nazakat and ada which is amiss in Hindi films these days.

Huma Quereshi’s screen presence is strong despite a very brief appearance. Lastly, Naseer’s partner in crime Arshad Warsi is at his comic best and his scenes with Naseeruddin Shah are to watch out for. Director Abhishek Chaubey has pulled off this dark comic thriller quite well at least in the trailer. If the trailer looks so enticing and we can hardly wait for the movie.

Madhuri-Naseer's Dedh Ishqiya trailer out

Oozing of class and elegance, the trailer of Dedh Ishqiya has Naseeruddin Shah romancing Madhuri Dixit on the silver screen. The trailer also features Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi.

Naseer and Arshad reprise their role as Khalujan and Babban respectively, but unlike the first installment
related stories

(where Vidya Balan was the solo heroine), this film has two female leads.

Age hasn't affected Madhuri's on-screen charm. The actress once again gets into the skin of her character -- Begum Para.

Naseer is effortless in his acting. Arshad and Huma have a natural chemistry.

The trailer starts with the voiceover of Naseer who goes on to explain the seven stages of love, adding that he is at the final stage of love with Madhuri. We will look out for the sting in the tail.

For more on this story of passion and deceit, watch the trailer.

Backatge pass: The Begum Of Lucknowi couture
Payal Saluja, the costume designer of Dedh Ishqiya

How would an aging coquette reigning over a surreal town nestled between nawabi nazakat and modern malice dress? When Payal Saluja, the costume designer of Dedh Ishqiya was first introduced to Begum Para -- Madhuri Dixit's character in the film--the dichotomy intrigued and flummoxed her.

She spent the next three months trawling the lanes of Lucknow, Mahmudabad and Delhi for the answer and now it was director Abhishek Chaubey's turn to be puzzled.

Who wouldn't be, when confronted with monikers like Toriphula and Zehermora. For the uninitiated, these are the old names for colours popularly known as yellow and teal and for a director who jokes that men, like animals, only see black and white, they proved a mouthful.

"Abhishek is not easy to please and the clothes had to reflect the Begum, who is haughty, bashful and a tease at the same time. So it was definitely a challenge" says Payal.

So, we have Madhuri wearing a chikan anarkali in shades of champagne and gold in a romantic scene while her wedding outfit, which is also the costliest ensemble in the wardrobe, is a mix of green, beige and red to signify an unconventional bride.

Instead of the fishtail silhouette of the ghararas (pleated and gathered at the knees) which is a favourite with filmi Begums, Madhuri sports the more authentic farshi shararas (a voluminous lehenga with a middle part) in the film. Then there is the jhoomar which is the begum's constant companion and the necklace which plays a significant part in the plot, all crafted by the jewellers of Old Delhi.

Madhuri's last remembered turn as Chandramukhi, the lovelorn courtesan of Devdas, came more than a decade ago. But Chandramukhi and Begum Para seem to have similar sartorial tastes.

"You will see a totally different Madhuri, actually you will not see Madhuri, just Begum," says Payal, brushing off the observation. And how much did the exquisite wardrobe cost?

Though Payal refuses to talk numbers, she is all praise for the generous makers and their deep pockets. After all, the Dhak Dhak girl's return should be 'priceless'!

Madhuri plays games
Nov 20, 2013 |

http://www.asianage.com/bollywood/madhuri-plays-games-586
She has always been tech savvy. Be it social networking or handling gizmos, Madhuri has always kept herself updated. But when she bought herself a new mobile phone recently, she found herself struggling to understand some of its features and a few in-built games.
Apparently, that’s when co-star Arshad Warsi came to her rescue. On the sets of Dedh Ishqiya, Arshad was seen having a long conversation and helping his super star leading lady getting a hang of the gadget. “Arshad has introduced me to mobile gaming. Apart from being totally hooked to it, I also feel that it’s a great stress buster,” revealed Madhuri.
Currently the entire industry is waiting to see her performance in Dedh Ishqiya. Those who have had a privileged viewing have said that Madhuri has delivered a career-best performance in the film.

Felt shy working with Nasseruddin Shah: Madhuri Dixit
Monday, Nov 25, 2013, 19:06 IST | Place: Mumbai | Agency: PTI

Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri Dixit - IANS

Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit, who will be seen romancing industry veteran Nasseruddin Shah in 'Dedh Ishqiya', says though she was comfortable working with him, she felt shy while enacting intense scenes with him.

Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Dedh Ishqiya' is a sequel to 2010 hit film 'Ishqiya'. Nasseruddin and Arshad Warsi are seen reprising their roles from the previous installment while Madhuri and Huma Qureshi are the new additions.

"I was not nervous working with him. His eyes had an intense feeling. Whenever we did intense scenes, I was feeling shy. He is a natural actor, you just have to react when you act with him," Madhuri told reporters here at the trailer launch of the film.

"I was comfortable working with him. I was just playing the character... had fun," she said.

Madhuri plays the role of Begum Para in the sequel. It was her character and script that made her say yes to the film.

"I had seen 'Ishqiya' and had loved it. They approached me for the sequel... I loved my character and the story very much. It was a tight script with romance, trust, betrayal and other elements," she said.

"We shot in remote areas... Travelled almost two hours... Shot in dirty locations. We all worked very hard and it was great fun with the team," she added.

After this, Madhuri will be seen next in 'Gulab Gang', where she plays the role of a woman gang leader.

"Both the films and the characters are very different. I will be seen in different avatars. I feel fortunate to be part of such different projects," she added.

Madhuri is back on silver screen after a gap of few years and she does feel a change in filmmaking.

"There are changes in the film industry like today filmmakers are shooting in remote areas, today things are more discplined, the scripts are ready, everything is finalised before, it is all well planned so that actors have to come and perform," Madhuri said.

"Today promotions, marketing have become a big deal. Promotions are hectic," she said.

Madhuri Dixit excited about Remo directed song in 'Dedh Ishqiya'

Mumbai: Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit is excited about the Remo D'Souza choreographed song in her much awaited movie 'Dedh Ishqiya' and says that the dance director tried something different in it.

"There are two dance numbers in the film and both the songs are sung by Rekha Bhardwaj. Birju Maharaj has choreographed one song and the other is by Remo. I am very excited about Remo's song as it's very unlike Remo style. He has done a good job," Madhuri told reporters Monday at a 'Dedh Ishqiya' event here.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, 'Dedh Ishqiya', a sequel to 'Ishiqya', also stars Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi.

Watch: Madhuri Dixit's flawless thumkas in Dedh Ishqiya song 'Hamari Atariya Pe'

And yes! Madhuri Dixit is back with her eloquent dance style in 'Dedh Ishqiya'. The maker of the film released the first song 'Hamari Atariya Pe' which showcases Madhuri Dixit's fine dance skills helmed by ace choreographer Remo D'Souza. Remo and Madhuri Dixit have been co judges on celebrity dance show 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa'.

The song is penned by Gulzar and the voice is that of singer Rekha Bhardwaj.

'Dedh Ishqiya' makers have put in every top-notch performer for the song and hence undoubtedly 'Hamari Atariya Pe' stands strong and is indeed a very promising opening after a much entertaining trailer.

Madhuri Dixit, who essays the role of refined Begum Para, is a visual delight as she sets the stage alight with her fine dance skills.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey and also starring Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, Huma Qureshi, Vijay Raaz, Shraddha Kapoor and Amrita Puri the film is scheduled to release on January 10, 2014.

My voice suits Madhuri: Rekha Baradwaj

Mumbai, Dec 8 (IANS): Playback singer Rekha Bhardwaj, who went behind the mike for Madhuri Dixit's special song "Ghaghra" in "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", has sung two others for her in "Dedh Ishqiya" as her voice is apt for the "Ek do teen" star.

"People like our combination. I think my voice suits her. My voice goes well with her dance and expression," Rekha told IANS.

The two songs by Rekha - "Hamari atariya pe", penned by Gulzar, and "Jagave" are picturized on Madhuri and many feel that the former number recreates the diva's 1990s magic.

Many feel Rekha is choosy with her songs, but she says decision depends on music directors.

She said: "Singers doesn't choose the songs it all depends on the music directors. It is the music director who chooses their singers."

Director Abhishek Chaubey presents Madhuri as a very strong woman in "Dedh Ishqiya" and she even has some intimate scenes with co-star Naseeruddin Shah, who had also featured in the original that saw Vidya Balan playing a very strong character in an unconventional yet entertaining story.

The sequel too offers a lot of interesting twists and turns with Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi in the cast.

Styling Madhuri Dixit in 'Dedh Ishqiya' was challenging: Designer

f at 46 actress Madhuri Dixit still manages to maintain a resplendent look in her comeback vehicle 'Dedh Ishqiya' and steal everyone's heart, costume designer Payal Saluja can rightfully take credit for it.

Saluja worked for months on finer details and piece together the costumes befitting Madhuri, who plays the role of Begum Para in Vishal Bharadwaj's home production, a comedy-thriller set for release next month.

"I treat script as the Bible...it guides in giving authentic look to characters. We have stayed real to the story and given a nawabi look (to Madhuri) through the costumes," Saluja told PTI here.

However, Saluja, whose previous work includes films like 'Raanjhanaa', 'Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola' and '7 Khoon Maaf' said styling the "dhak dhak" girl for the Abhishek Chaubey-directed movie was a challenging task.

To give a 'nawabi' (royal) look to Madhuri, she spent almost three months scouting for various fabrics, jewellery etc in the lanes of Lucknow, Delhi and a few other places.

"I feel lucky to have got an opportunity to work with her in this film. There was no pressure as such but it was definitely a challenge to make her look the way her character was envisioned."

"As Madhuri plays a begum (a woman having aristocratic lineage) we had to bring that nawabi...royalty feel to her costumes. Every piece was customised for her. She was enthusiastic...energetic to put on every piece (costume). She loved what I had given her to wear every time," Saluja said.

Madhuri will be seen sporting shararas, anarkali, ghararas, jhoomar (a begum's trademark) and the necklace in the film, a sequel of 2010 film 'Ishqiya'.

Besides Madhuri, Saluja did costumes for her co-stars, including Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi.

The film, whose trailer was released last month, will see Shah and Warsi reprising their respective 'Ishqiya' roles, while Madhuri and Huma are the new addition.
